Greater Shepparton City Council wishes to advise the community of the opening of a new school crossing at the site of the former Wanganui Park Secondary College campus on Parkside Drive, Shepparton. This comes as junior students from the Verney Road campus prepare to relocate to their newly transformed school facilities, which are ready to welcome students from Thursday 30 January 2025.
In Summary
The new crossing will be located on Parkside Drive, between Tyquin Street and Gawne Close and will be supported by a School Crossing Supervisor to assist children in crossing the road safely. Council reminds drivers to be patient and respectful with staff, pedestrians, and other road users and will deploy an electronic sign near the campus to alert drivers to the updated road conditions.
With the opening of the new school, road conditions in the area will change significantly, including increased local traffic on school days and a rise in pedestrian activity during school start and finish times. To ensure the safety of all road users, Council reminds drivers to remain cautious, particularly as speed limits in the area will also be adjusted to reflect the new school zone.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged drivers to take extra care during this transition period.
“We understand that the opening of the new school and the associated road changes may present an adjustment for our community. We thank everyone for their patience and cooperation as we work together to ensure the safety of students and pedestrians,” he said.
Council urges all road users to prioritise safety and adapt their driving habits to accommodate the increased traffic and new school zone speed limits.
