Greater Shepparton City Council is encouraging people to take part in The Adaption Game (TAG), a hands-on board game, designed to help communities to be better prepared and more resilient to weather emergencies.
In Summary
The TAG game has been successfully implemented by Amble Studio in collaboration with several councils across Victoria. Council’s Community Recovery team are now bringing this tool to Greater Shepparton to support community engagement and emergency management.
TAG provides a fictional experience of ‘living through’ three natural disasters in your local area. Players are encouraged to create their own place-based storylines that clearly and meaningfully humanises the concept of disaster planning into players’ lives in a meaningful, practical, and actionable way.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said the game provides a unique opportunity for community members to be better prepared for an emergency.
“Its important people are ready for an emergency if one should arise. This game is an engaging and fun way people can learn, connect, and prepare for an emergency such as floods or bushfires,” he said.
The game TAG builds community connections by highlighting the importance of people working together in an emergency. Participants will feel empowered and more prepared in an emergency, being able to remain calm and take action when it matters most.
“Our community knows how important it is to be ready for a weather emergency. Through game scenarios, players will be encouraged to think about how to protect their home, family, town, and environment,” Cr Sali said.
Council’s Community Recovery Team are holding a free workshop for people interested in becoming a facilitator. For anyone interested in bringing the game to their friends, family, or community, join Council at the Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre on Thursday 27 November 2025 from 12pm to 4pm.
If you are just interested in playing TAG, you can participate in a free afternoon game facilitated by Council at the Mooroopna Education and Activity Centre on Friday 28 November 2025 from 12pm to 4pm. Light refreshments will be provided.
