Greater Shepparton City Council is preparing to commence stage one of works on the fire-damaged Ted Davis Grandstand at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve, which will involve partial demolition and reconstruction of the structure.
Contractor Bay Building Services has been engaged by Council to carefully dismantle the heritage-listed structure, which was set alight in the early hours of 4 February 2025.
Works will begin in early September and are expected to be completed by mid to late September, weather permitting.
As part of stage one, all materials from the grandstand will be retained for thorough assessment, with the goal of identifying elements that can be salvaged, reused, or require replacement in future restoration works.
Access to the site will be strictly limited while works are underway. Only authorised workers and Council staff will be permitted on or near the site during this period.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, said Council is committed to restoring the grandstand and ensuring it remains a valued part of Mooroopna’s sporting and cultural heritage.
“The Ted Davis Grandstand is an important landmark for Mooroopna, holding deep historical and community significance,” he said.
Councillor Kieron Eddy, Lower Goulburn Ward, said the works are a vital step towards giving the Mooroopna community back a much-loved facility.
“The grandstand has been at the heart of local sport in Mooroopna for generations,” he said.
