Aquamoves, in partnership with the Hunter Boyle Children’s Swim Program and Kidsafe, have launched a community scholarship aiming to reduce the barriers to becoming a swim instructor.
Residents with an interest in water safety and a passion for teaching children are encouraged to apply, with the scholarship covering the cost of all fees while providing guidance and support through the entire process. The scholarship includes the Life Saving Victoria Swim Licence, First Aid and CPR certificate, Working with Children’s Check and paid training hours. It also allows for ongoing development through in-house training, future employment and the opportunity to learn lifelong skills.
Greater Shepparton City Council’s Manager Active Living, David Booth said the scholarship was an important initiative which aimed to combat issues around water safety and access to swim lessons.
“Swim instructors play such an important role in the development of children’s skills and confidence in the water,” he said.
“Council is extremely pleased to be partnering with The Hunter Boyle Children’s Swim Program to allow more people to obtain their swim instructor qualifications. The more instructors we have in our region the better opportunity we have to promote and maintain water safety.”
Mr Booth said the scholarship also included plenty of mentoring and guidance for candidates to ensure they were supported during the process.
“No experience is required to apply for the scholarship. We are looking for confident, energetic, reliable individuals who have a passion for teaching children,” he said.
“Council understands the importance of expanding our team of swim instructors and our Learn to Swim Program to ensure access to swimming lessons within Greater Shepparton is readily available.
“We encourage anyone interested in becoming a swim instructor to apply for the scholarship. This is the perfect opportunity to gain your qualification.”
Anyone interested can register their interest by emailing swimschool@aquamoves.com.au before Monday 13 February 2023. Please include your full name, phone number and a brief statement on why you would like to apply for the scholarship.
For more information, phone Aquamoves on 5832 9400.
