Greater Shepparton City Council invites the Greater Shepparton community to get involved in the 2019 Carols by Candlelight event on Sunday 22 December at the Queens Gardens.
Greater Shepparton’s Carols by Candlelight event is now in its 45th year of bringing the community together to celebrate the festive season.
Council is excited to confirm through partnership with the Shepparton News the event will be available for viewing online for the second consecutive year, after Carols was streamed for the very first time in 2018.
Greater Shepparton City Council’s Director Sustainable Development Geraldine Christou said the event was something for all community members to participate in.
“For many years the organising committee have worked hard at creating an entertaining show for families across Greater Shepparton to enjoy, and this year will be no different,” Ms Christou said.
“I encourage everyone to come down to the Queens Gardens and spread some Christmas cheer on what is always a popular night in our region.
“We are so excited to once again be live streaming the event, so we will be able share the Christmas festival with members who cannot attend the evening. This will provide more people in our community the opportunity to witness the wonderful local talent and amazing pyrotechnic displays, all from the comfort of their own home.
“The event has always brought the community together, and now with online technology Carols by Candlelight can connect more people than ever before.”
This year the night will kick off at 6.30pm with some of the community’s favourite carollers and new exciting acts to take the stage throughout the evening. Many talented locals will perform their favourite songs and also encourage the audience to join in and sing along with the traditional carols.
Everyone is welcome to enjoy the free event which is proudly sponsored by local businesses.
Please bring chairs, cushions and rugs to allow for a comfortable evening. Carol books, food vendors, ice cream trucks and coffee vans will also be available throughout the night. Residents will be able purchase glow in the dark merchandise and glow sticks.
Unfortunately, due to the predicted high temperatures, current dry conditions and close proximity of the fireworks location to bushlands there will not be any fireworks at this year’s Carols by Candlelight. Council understands the fireworks are a much-loved tradition for the carols event however this decision has been made for the safety of the community and to prevent the spread of bush fires.
Council would also like to inform commuters of road closures on Nixon Street between Welsford and Wyndham Streets between 4pm-10pm on Sunday for the event.
Carols by Candlelight
Date: Sunday 22 December
Time: start 6:30pm
Location: Queens Garden, Corner Wyndham and Nixon Streets.
Free community event with food and drinks available for purchase on the evening.
