Greater Shepparton City Council has commenced community consultation with residents, businesses and organisations regarding its intention to enter into an Agreement for Lease with Munarra Limited, to realise the Munarra Centre for Regional Excellence (MCRE).
Council is inviting submissions from local residents on the proposal to lease the land to the rear of the Shepparton Sports Stadium to facilitate the construction of the MCRE. The MCRE will be a state-of-the-art nationally-significant centre designed as a hub of connection and transformation for Indigenous and non-indigenous people across Australia.
It is intended that the MCRE complex will be run by Munarra Limited, a not-for-profit entity that is a partnership of Rumbalara Football and Netball Club, the University of Melbourne and Kaiela Institute.
As part of its community engagement process, Council is inviting submissions on the proposal to lease the land. Any person wishing to make a submission must do so in writing by no later than Monday, 28 February 2022.
“Community consultation is an important step in the process and Council is looking forward to hearing back from the community on their views about the leasing of the land,” Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe said.
Submissions can be emailed to council@shepparton.vic.gov.au, completed online at Shaping Greater Shepparton or submitted via post to Greater Shepparton City Council, Locked Bag 1000, Shepparton VIC 3632. Submissions should be titled ‘Notice of Intention to Lease Land – Munarra Limited’.
All submissions must be in writing and submitted by 28 February 2022 to be considered by Council. Submitters may also request to be heard by Council in support of their submission at an upcoming Council Meeting.
Council will then consider all submissions including those submitters who wish to be heard, and will then make a determination on the lease of the land at a future Council Meeting in 2022.
