As part of Community Safety Month in October, Greater Shepparton City Council would like to remind residents that they have access to two types of graffiti removal kits to remove graffiti from private and commercial premises. Kits are available from Council offices and Shepparton Police Station, with each kit containing a special environmentally friendly cleaning product, cleaning equipment and personal safety gear.
The Wipeout Graffiti program was developed by Council and Victoria Police to eliminate graffiti and discourage further incidents. The Greater Shepparton community is encouraged to report incidences of graffiti through the Police Assistance Line to enable recording of graffiti trends and locations to support future preventative measures. Council endeavours to respond to the removal of reported graffiti from Council property within 24 hours.
Graffiti removal is a key aspect of community safety, with the presence of graffiti in public and private locations creating a perception that negative antisocial behaviour is accepted by the community.
Mayor Cr Shane Sali said “We are encouraging the community to take a proactive approach to eliminating graffiti within our local communities by reporting incidents of graffiti and utilising the free removal kits.”
“Since coming out of COVID lockdowns there has been an increase in graffiti reports in Shepparton and Mooroopna that have occurred on private residences, businesses and Council property. Acting quickly with the removal will demonstrate that unauthorised and illegal behaviour in not accepted by residents and wider community.” said Cr Sali.
For more information visit contact Council on (03) 5832 9700. Report property damage via the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or online at https://bit.ly/VicPolReport.
