Greater Shepparton City Council is excited to announce a new three year event partnership with the Shepparton Festival to strengthen the arts and cultural community in the region.
An iconic event on the Greater Shepparton major events calendar, Shepparton Festival is a 16 day celebration in March which showcases local artists, groups, musicians and more to the community to highlight the region‘s talents.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Councillor Kim O’Keeffe said the partnership has come at an exciting time for the region’s art and culture developments.
“For many years as a region we have come together to celebrate our strong arts communities in many ways, the past year has seen some amazing developments in this space such as the new Shepparton Art Museum, Council’s commitment to a Creative City Strategy and the region’s announcement of the hosting of White Night later in 2022. This partnership with the Shepparton Festival will further strengthen these endeavours and enhancing the region’s livability, economic growth and social cohesion,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“As part of this partnership, Council is committed to running the Converge on the Goulburn festival which will kick off on the opening weekend of the Shepparton Festival on Saturday 19 March at the Victoria Park Lake. As well as an exciting new festival Council will be introducing shortly that will be part of the 2022 Shepparton Festival program.
“This partnership demonstrates Council’s dedication to supporting local arts, music, food and culture and this event is a perfect showcase of the many great things we have to offer.”
“The Shepparton Festival has been for many years a driving force and enabler for the region’s creative industries and Council is very proud to continue this wonderful partnership for the next three years as we collectively work together to grow the sector for our community and visitors”
Shepparton Festival General Manager Louise Tremper said Shepparton Festival were thrilled to partner again with Council.
“This new contract means we can focus on delivering an amazing festival in 2022 and beyond. Arts and creative experiences strengthen this place of ours and that’s the role of art. It brings people together to celebrate our cultures, history, creativity and this region’s strengths,” Ms Temper said.
Visitors from the region and beyond attend the March festival and this year it is anticipated that 30,000 people will make their way to the region to participate in the many events on offer.
“This does wonders for our local community, assisting with COVID-19 recovery, increasing public engagement, bringing visitors to the region and helping keep local businesses busy,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
