Greater Shepparton City Council is excited to launch “Greater Shepparton Food Bowl at the Source of it all” a collection of recipes, stories and the history which has positioned the region as the Food Bowl of the nation.
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Councillor Kim O’Keeffe said Greater Shepparton’s reputation as the Food Bowl created the idea for documenting the use of our local produce in a recipe book.
“For many years Council has worked to enhance the region’s reputation as the Food Bowl, this latest initiative invites the homes around the nation and the world to try our local produce and celebrate the great food that has shaped our region,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
“With 25 per cent of Victoria’s agricultural production occurring in Greater Shepparton we want to remind people where a lot of their food comes from, right here in their back yard, as well as exposing Greater Shepparton as the hub for fresh produce with a thriving and diverse cuisine culture that it truly is.
“The cook book contains self-written recipes, instructions and tips from local chefs and restaurants along with the stories from local businesses and producers on their establishment in the region and the resilience and passion to grow into the leading industry representatives they are today.”
Greater Shepparton Food Bowl at the Source of it All – Can be purchased from the Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre and features 14 local recipes to make at home and stories capturing the history and achievements of the many growers, producers, chefs, restaurants and café owners in the region.
“Available just in time for Christmas from the Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre, add it to your Christmas list or gift to your foodie friends, there’s also a wonderful collection of local produce available from the Visitor Centre which also features in the cook book,” Cr O’Keeffe said.
