Council in partnership with Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority will undertake a flood scoping study to assess future flood events. Katandra West has previously been affected by significant flooding, most recently in 2012.
The Scoping Study is focused on the township of Katandra West, including external influences which impact on flooding conditions within the town. Council has appointed consultants Confluence Group to undertake the study.
Mayor Shane Sali said “Feedback is needed from residents to help draw on local knowledge accumulated from observing the past floods in Katandra West. These insights are pivotal. Council will be posting out a copy of the survey to all Katandra West township residents in the next couple of weeks. Residents can provide feedback online, sending back the survey in the reply paid envelope or pick up a survey from Council or the local general store in Katandra”.
“Council and the Confluence Group will host drop in sessions at the Katandra West Community Centre, here residents can bring along old photos and tell us what happened during certain flooding events”.
“Katandra West previous floods occurred in 2012, 1993, 1974, 1956, 1939 and 1919. The best people to ask for information are the locals,” said Cr Sali.
The scoping study will help provide an improved understanding of flooding conditions, influences and impacts within Katandra West. Using this knowledge, improved planning controls for authorities to better manage future development will be developed, while also providing information for possible improvement measures to reduce future flood impacts in the area.
Council would appreciate the feedback questionnaire be completed by 23 September 2022.
