Maude Street Mall redevelopment works commenced for the year on Monday 10 January 2022, with the installation of the Stage 2 hoarding in the northern end of the mall.
The contractor has already completed a significant amount of demolition in the area to make way for the northern section of the new road surface which will be open to one-way low speed traffic when the project is complete.
Shoppers will notice lighting, shade structures, street furniture, tree cells, new concrete and paving installed in the coming months.
Director Infrastructure Gary Randhawa said that everyone involved in the project was excited to see it begin to take shape.
“Much of the construction completed to date has been demolition works,” he said.
“While there is still demolition taking place in Stage 2 and future stages, we are excited to begin to install some of the new structures such as lighting and shaded seating areas.”
Stage 2 construction works are due to be completed in late July 2022. Once works are complete the hoarding will be removed, however the roadway will remain closed to traffic until the entire project is finalised.
Construction works on Stage 1 of the project, near Fraser Street, continue with the installation of the new playground expected in March.
While there are solid plywood hoarding around the construction site to reduce dust and noise for shoppers and traders, all shops remain accessible and parking in the area is unaffected by the works.
Greater Shepparton City Council would like to thank retailers and traders for their patience while we complete this project and encourage the community to continue to visit their favourite stores in the area during the works.
