Greater Shepparton City Council noted the awarding of $40,830 in community grants to 23 local clubs and organisations at the December Council Meeting.
The funding was awarded under the Small Town Festive Events Grants, Major and Minor Events Grants and Community Sustainability Grants, with each offering grants of varying financial amounts to assist with events, community upgrades, and local projects.
Nine community groups across Greater Shepparton shared in $7,000 as part of the Small Town Festive Event Grants 2022. These grants aim to assist not-for-profit community organisations with the implementation and delivery of festive celebrations in our small towns. Funding is available between $500 and $2,500 to contribute to the facilitation and running of festive events aimed at enhancing community spirit and encouraging participation.
A total of $26,861 was shared between 11 local community groups as part of Round One of the 2022/2023 Major and Minor Event Grants Program. These grants provide financial assistance to not-for-profit groups who organise and run events within the region. Funding of up to $2,000 is available under the Minor Events category and up to $5,000 under the Major Events category.
Lastly, a total of $6,969 was shared between three community groups as part of Round One of the 2022/2023 Community Sustainability Grants Program. These grants support the development and implementation of sustainable projects and events, which assist in achieving sustainability actions within Council’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Climate Emergency Action Plan.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali congratulated each of the successful applicants.
“Council is extremely pleased to be able to award this important funding each year. These local service clubs, organisations and not-for-profits have an important role to play in our region and Council is always happy to support them with this work,” he said.
“Council is glad to be able to inject this money back into the community. We know it will have a huge benefit, whether it be through some of the local festive events which have been held in the lead up to Christmas or through sustainability upgrades to community centres.”
