Applications for the 2020 Greater Shepparton Seniors Festival Grants open tomorrow, 1 April 2020 and will close Thursday 30 April 2020.
Greater Shepparton City Council acknowledges the 2020 Seniors Festival, which takes place annually in October, may be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Council is opening these grants in the hope that the Seniors Festival will go ahead.
Council is committed to older residents in Greater Shepparton, and aims to promote their wellbeing in line with the Greater Shepparton Positive Ageing Action Plan. This limited funding is intended to support a range of activities and events that have a particular focus on seniors in our community.
It is hoped the grants will encourage our older generation to participate in physical activities or attend social events and functions once the COVID-19 pandemic has passed.
Funding support is available for the following:
Council Mayor, Cr Seema Abdullah, encouraged residents to apply.
“We love seeing our older generation out and about, having fun and being social. We want to continue supporting our local community groups who are already supporting seniors by holding events and gatherings,” Cr Abdullah said.
“We also encourage anyone with an idea for a new event to come forward and apply for a grant - we want to see as many seniors out and about as possible. Let’s hope the festival is able to go ahead and we can host events in Greater Shepparton in October.”
Funding is provided on a one-off basis to a maximum of $500 per grant. Applicants and groups must be based in Greater Shepparton and operating not-for-profit. The proposed project should be able to demonstrate broad community benefit. Funding will not be provided for capital works of any nature.
For more information, please refer to the guidelines for the Seniors Festival Grant on Greater Shepparton City Council website.
Grant applications will be received via the online Smarty Grants portal.
