Greater Shepparton City Council were pleased to attend a roundtable meeting hosted in the region on Monday by the Australia Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AACCI) and the Global Victoria Trade Alliance.
Council was a partner in facilitating the event, hosted at the Park Lake in Shepparton, which saw Australian trade experts share their insights on export opportunities for local businesses to the Middle East and North Africa.
At the roundtable, business owners in Greater Shepparton heard from Ian Halliday, Australia’s Consul-General to Dubai and General Manager of Austrade for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey and Todd Miller, the incoming Trade and Investment Commissioner to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain and Oman.
The Middle East and North Africa have seen significant growth in consumer demand across a range of industry sectors, presenting a wealth of opportunities for exporters. AACCI and the guest speakers shared market insights, discussed the geopolitical climate and spoke about the key sectors with growth opportunities for regional businesses.
Mayor Cr Kim O’Keeffe was pleased to welcome the delegation and participants to the region, speaking to them about the success of Greater Shepparton and the opportunities for further growth.
“Council was extremely pleased to welcome the roundtable to Greater Shepparton to share our success and build partnerships with people around the globe,” she said.
“The roundtable was a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to find out more about export opportunities and further ways to expand their product and services.
“There is huge consumer demand in areas of Middle East and North Africa and Council look forward to continuing the global relationships we already have and working further with local businesses to expand the success of our region.”
