Greater Shepparton City Council invites community members to the Showground Multi-Purpose Pavilion in Shepparton this Wednesday night, to watch the Matildas on the big screen in their FIFA Women’s World Cup semi-final showdown against England.
A big screen will be set up inside the Multi-Purpose Pavilion at the Shepparton Showgrounds tomorrow, Wednesday 16 August, for residents to come along, watch the action and support our wonderful Australian soccer team.
The gates will be open from 6.30pm, with pre-games kids’ soccer activities for families to enjoy. The game will then kick-off at 8pm. Attendees are welcome to bring their own food and drinks to have a picnic inside the Pavilion. Strictly no alcohol can be consumed on site.
Council invites the community to attend the event and wear green and gold colours, in support of the Matildas and former local soccer sensation Cortnee Vine, who scored the winning penalty that sent the team through to the semi-finals.
Mayor, Councillor Shane Sali, encouraged community members to come to the Showgrounds with the family and experience an historic moment for women’s soccer.
“The Matildas already made history by making it to the semi-finals for the first time, and we couldn’t be prouder. We invite the community to come along with the family, watch the game on the big screen and have a great time,” he said.
“The Showgrounds are ready for this special occasion. Instead of watching the game at home, come and cheer on the Matildas and local talent Cortnee Vine. We are looking forward to another epic match.”
Entry to the event is free. Please bring your own chair and rug up to keep warm. Parking will be available at the Showgrounds for attendees, with entry via Fryers Street. For further information, contact Council on 5832 9700.
